Signing up with Zilch allows you to have access to a virtual card which can be used to buy now and pay later for shoes, clothes, but also food, books etc. How does it work? This is very simple. When you get the card, you will be able to use it for free at any of the retailers who offer Zilch. At the time where you make your first payment, you will pay one quarter (25%) of the full cost. Two weeks later, you pay another quarter of the price, which adds up to 50% of the total cost. So on and so forth until 6 weeks after your initial payment, where you will have paid for the item in full.

This can be very useful in order to spread out your expenses over time. What is more, Zilch does not charge you for late payments. However, if you do miss payments, this could impact your credit score (and therefore your capacity to borrow money from other places), and you will no longer be able to use your Zilch card.

How do you sign up to Zilch? It is very easy, you simply set up an account with them, and once they have verified your details, you are good to go! You will need your email address and phone number to begin with. The reason why they ask for your details and verify them is so they can quickly check if you have a habit of repaying your loans on time – although they do not perform a full-on credit check. You will also need to link your debit card to your Zilch account in order to start your purchases.

What else is there to say? If the brand you want to buy from does not offer Zilch, you can still buy your favourite pair of sneakers or a gift for your family and pay later. You will just need to pay £2.50 at checkout, and the shop needs to accept Mastercard for it to work. Zilch is also a very practical platform since the card they issue is a virtual one. You don’t have to wait a while for it to be sent to you, and there is no need to worry about losing it.

All in all, Zilch seems like a very useful program through which you can buy things you may not have been to afford all in one go. The trick is to make sure you can pay back the loans, otherwise this could impact your credit score. Visit their website to find out more and to set up your account!
